Doosan Machine Tools (CEO Kim Jae-seop) has expanded the lineup of its PUMA TL series of high-productivity shaft work machines equipped with upper and lower turrets. The latest additions, the new PUMA TL2500XL/XLM, have been evaluated as ‘high-productivity, horizontal turning centers’ that can accelerate customers’ cost-cutting efforts by reducing machining time and improving cutting productivity based on their maximum turning length of 1,250mm.
High-Productivity 4-Axis Turning Center with Upper/Lower Turrets, Perfect for Simultaneous Machining of Long Shafts
The PUMA TL series consists of 8/10 inch class high-productivity horizontal turning centers equipped with a programmable tailstock on top of the upper and lower turrets. The series has doubled productivity by allowing the upper and lower turrets to be used simultaneously in the cutting of long-shaft pipes based on the tailstocks. Other notable advantages include the potential to secure high processing accuracy due to the application of a built-in spindle. Furthermore, Doosan Machine Tools has expanded the processing length of the PUMA TL2500XL/XLM to 1,250mm in response to customers’ requests to increase the maximum turning length.
Excellent Machining Quality and Maximum Machining Range in its Class
The TL2500XL/XLM is equipped with a heavily ribbed box guide type of frame that resists eccentric loads through its 45° inclined wall, which is designed to endure high stress resulting from X direction force. It boasts stable machining quality even during heavy cutting. High productivity is ensured with the application of a high-performance built-in spindle motor and upper and lower multi-axis turrets. The new models are also designed to secure optimum operational efficiency. In addition, the PUMA TL series has diversified its specifications with chuck sizes of 8 and 10 inches and machining lengths of 600, 1,000 and 1250 millimeters, offering customers the widest range of choices in its class.

Most importantly, the PUMA TL series is a four-axis high-performance machine that simultaneously controls both the upper and lower turrets, making it perfect for shaft work. One-time setting improves accuracy and saves time. Automation features enable unattended operation. The minimal installation area leads to excellent space usage. Most notably, productivity has been improved considerably thanks to the simultaneous control of two turrets, enabling long shaft work while reducing machine tool chatter, four-axis balanced turning, and simultaneous four-axis turning. The wide guideway and robust tailstock guarantee high machinability.
Improved Usability and Quality
The latest models are fitted with a new ergonomically designed operation panel, and a screen designed exclusively by Doosan Machine Tools for easier access and use of the EOP package. The panel includes screens designed to make the setting and maintenance processes much easier. To maximize customers’ operational convenience, the models come equipped with a 15-inch screen as a standard feature, in addition to universal button design and keyboard features that allow users who are familiar with PC features to start operating the new models quickly and easily.
